Eugene Mirman, the comedian who has voiced the character of Gene Belcher on the animated Fox series *Bob's Burgers *since 2011, has spoken out after he was involved in a car crash on Tuesday in Bedford, N.H.

"Thank you so much for all the well-wishes, love, and kind messages from friends and strangers," Mirman wrote Friday on social media. "I am extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people that pulled me from the car and to the warm, kind, and talented staff at the hospital that cared for me and got me on the mend! I am thankful beyond words to be here and doing relatively alright, all things considered."

Mirman added that he had been offline during his recovery, but then proved that he still has his sense of humor.

"I don't have my phone, so haven't been online much," he wrote. "I do not recommend my method of decreasing screen time. If you're a friend who sent a kind, loving message, you should know that it was hard to not respond with, 'I'd love to be on your podcast.' I love you all and please take care of yourselves."

The New Hampshire Division of State Police reported in a news release that the 2026 Lucid Gravity that Mirman was driving struck the Bedford Toll Plaza on the F.E. Everett Turnpike on March 31. Witnesses called 911, saying the vehicle was on fire with a person trapped inside.

State troopers responded to the incident at 11:55 a.m. local time.

Mirman was pulled through a window of the burning car by a state trooper assigned to New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte's security detail, who happened to come across the crash.

Officials said the 51-year-old Mirman, who they referred to by his birth name of Yevgeny, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Col. Mark B. Hall praised the trooper, who was not named "due to the nature of their position."

“Certainly, their actions were heroic in what they did," Hall said. "Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it."

No charges have been filed in the incident, which continues to be investigated.
