Don Lemon is putting a surprising idea on the table. The former cable news host says he is genuinely weighing a White House bid. During a recent podcast appearance, the journalist made clear that repeated encouragement from supporters has given him hope to fulfill this thought.

Appearing on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast on July 16, Lemon confirmed that a 2028 White House campaign is something he is now weighing. When one host pressed him on whether he truly meant it, he did not hesitate. “No, I’m being totally serious,” He replied, adding, “I actually think I would be a really good president of the United States.”

He explained that the push has come largely from others, stating that people keep asking him to do it. The former CNN anchor laid out how he would want any campaign to work. He said he would prefer a run powered by everyday citizens rather than deep-pocketed donors, ideally without having to beg for money.

Lemon, who has built an independent media brand since leaving cable news, argued that being self-made and media-savvy leaves him well-equipped for the job. He compared his potential rise to that of Barack Obama, suggesting that unconventional contenders with distinctive backgrounds can still break through.

At the same time, he was frank about the obstacles ahead, acknowledging, “I’m not a white man and the rules are different for me.”

For now, Lemon says he is keeping a close watch on the field before commenting. “As we get closer to 2027 or 2028, I’ll see. I’ll decide,” he noted. A longtime critic of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, Lemon signaled that a Democratic bid is the likeliest route, which would require him to change his registration from independent.

He also added that he has already consulted with political insiders about the timeline, team structure and possible announcement dates. It is not the first time Lemon has raised the prospect; he talked about a similar idea earlier in 2026 before revisiting it in more concrete terms this week.
