Jenny Mollen is breaking her silence on her split from Jason Biggs.

Two weeks after the couple announced their separation following 18 years of marriage, Mollen, 46, shared an essay titled "Don't Tell Me What It Is" on living in the now and shared she'd be going on a post-breakup trip.

"I leave for Italy on Wednesday, which sounds soooo *Eat, Pray, Love* considering the current state of my life," she wrote via The Best Friend Experience Substack on Monday. "But I’m not going to find myself or sleep with some beautiful Italian stranger. I already have two half-Italians at home [sons Sid, 12, and Lazlo, 8]. I’m actually just going because a friend invited me to her birthday party. It also happens to be my birthday as well."

At the start of her piece, Mollen reflected on her sixth birthday and recalled how she rushed to open up all her presents while a party was happening around her.

"I was in a rush to grow up, a rush to graduate college, a rush to land a TV show, and a billboard outside my ex-boyfriend’s apartment," she wrote. "I spent most of my twenties alone in dark rooms listening to Tori Amos and journaling about how misunderstood I was as a privileged, blonde girl whose dad paid her rent. I refused to go out with people my own age because what would be the point? They were just as lost as I was, and frankly, not additive enough to the story."

Mollen went on to note that every moment she's ever been in has "felt a little temporary" as if she were consistently in a waiting room before an operation. She noted she felt similarly when her children with Biggs, 48, were younger.

"I thought I’d never survive the years when my children weren’t sleeping through the night. I thought every weekend would be spent trapped inside the hellscape of the Tribeca red park playground," Mollen shared. "But those moments are behind me, and what’s tragic is that while I was in them, struggling to get out, my life was happening anyway. My kids were growing up, and I was standing in memories that I can now only access through pictures."

Mollen then explained that she is attempting to prioritize being in the moment in Italy, moving forward in hopes that she can experience a new way of life.

"When you’re young and ambitious, or maybe just middle-aged with ADHD, it feels impossible to appreciate anything while you’re in it," Mollen wrote. "The highest highs of my life have all hit like pennies disappearing into a bottomless well. I’d wait- maybe a moment or two for the sound of something landing, but before it ever did, I was on to the next. Hoping that the next thing would finally be the one that cured me- the one that made me feel worthy and validated in a way that has always evaded me."

On Monday, Mollen also shared a photo hugging her son Sid, which received some backlash from followers for its alleged appropriateness. She said she was confused and frankly "shocked" by the response — claiming it was perhaps due to the current state of her marriage.

"It's like because I'm getting separated, because I'm not protected by the institution of marriage, I'm suddenly like a different kind of target in what I'm posting. Like this is absolutely jaw-dropping. A photo of me hugging my 12-year-old child is getting ridiculed," she shared on Instagram Stories.

Her sister-in-law, who appeared to be Biggs' sibling, supported Mollen in her Instagram Stories and defended her as a mother simply hugging her son.

"As a teacher I can tell you this, it's totally normal," she said of showing affection to your little ones. "And if your child isn't doing that then I'm sorry they're not able to show affection. And any parent knows that what you see in that photo is not going to last long because my nephew is not going to be doing that that much longer."

"Why would I not milk it?" Mollen added, noting she hadn't seen her son in three days.

Her original caption allegedly stated that "the eldest son is the most toxic relationship of your life," which she has since removed. Mollen did mention in her Instagram Stories, however, that people "won't get it unless you have a son that makes you do things that you would never, ever, ever do for another man."

"My mom wishes my brother would still do that with her," Mollen's sister-in-law stated of the mother-son hug.
