Joy Behar says she will step away from "The View" panel for several weeks, confirming an extended hiatus during a Tuesday, May 26, episode of the ABC daytime show's “Behind the Table” podcast.

Behar, while speaking to "The View" executive producer Brian Teta, said she will travel to Europe to perform her stage play “My First Ex-Husband,” with scheduled stops in Paris and London. She explained that she will spend time moving from France to the United Kingdom, where the production will run at the Boulevard Theatre in London’s West End.

She also described the production’s cast, noting she performs alongside Jackie Hoffman and two British actors. Behar said the trip will be full of performances as well as time for writing and cultural visits, adding that the project is a major focus of her time away from the talk show.

The Walt Disney Company, the parent company of ABC, did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for additional comment regarding Behar’s upcoming absence from “The View.”

Teta confirmed Behar will remain on "The View" through the end of the week before her absence begins. He also indicated that multiple guest cohosts will rotate in during her time away.

Teta revealed a lineup of temporary replacements, including comedian Sheryl Underwood, who previously filled in amid earlier absences on the panel. Podcast host Kara Swisher is also scheduled to appear during the hiatus.

Ana Navarro, who regularly appears on specific days of the week, is expected to expand her on-air presence while Behar is away. In an unusual scheduling shift, Whoopi Goldberg, who typically takes Fridays off, is also expected to appear on those episodes during the gap.

Recent absences and cohost rotations

Behar’s planned break comes amid a series of previous disruptions on "The View," including short-term absences related to health issues and injury recovery. The program has also relied more heavily on rotating guest cohosts in recent months due to overlapping schedules and personal time off among panelists.

The show’s format has continued to adapt with temporary substitutions, including past fill-ins during maternity leave and other extended breaks among cast members. Behar, a long-running voice on the panel, has remained a central figure since returning to the program in 2015 following her original run during the show's inception in 1997.
