Queen Latifah explains how motherhood has shifted her priorities and made her focus on what truly matters

She credits her "village" for supporting her as she raises her 6-year-old son Rebel with partner Eboni Nichols

The star went on to say that she returned to the Ice Age franchise partly for her son, who enjoys watching the animated films

Queen Latifah is opening up about how motherhood has changed her.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the singer and actress, 56, spoke about becoming a mother to her 6-year-old son Rebel, whom she shares with partner Eboni Nichols.

"[Motherhood] makes you put one foot in front of the other no matter what,” Latifah said in a rare comment on parenthood. “I'm going to leave it at that. You got to put one foot in front of the other. There's no quitting.”

“It's a challenge. Everything gets real. Priorities change too. You know, you realize what's really important and who's really important," she continued. "And it's tougher on other people, because when you get an actual baby, the grown people you treat like babies have to grow up, cause sorry, you can't get that."

"But I thank God for the tribe, for the village. It takes a village and I really am thankful for mine," the actress added.

Elsewhere in the interview, Latifah spoke about her return to the Ice Age franchise, sharing that she came back in part for her son.

"It is, again, something I really look forward to. I had two nephews who called me Auntie Ellie for months," she shared. "They didn't even call me Auntie Dana. ‘Auntie Ellie, Auntie Ellie!' Because they watched Ice Age and they just love me as a wooly mammoth."

"So I mean, some of these things I specifically do for them. I have a son and he started watching Ice Age and he enjoyed the movies," Latifah explained. "So the fact that he's gonna have one to be able to watch, a new one, is very exciting to me."

The star returns as Ellie in the sixth film in the series, Ice Age: Boiling Point, which is set to premiere in 2027.
