Queen Margrethe of Denmark has been admitted to the hospital for the second time in as many weeks.
The Royal House announced the former monarch's latest medical update on Monday, May 25, saying in a press release, "Her Majesty Queen Margrethe has been admitted to Rigshospitalet and has been treated, after a CT scan showed a large blood clot in the hip region as a result of a previous fall."
"It is expected that Queen Margrethe will now be hospitalized for a number of days," the statement continued. "Her Majesty is doing well under the circumstances."
This latest treatment comes just 11 days after Amaleinborg Palance announced the Queen, 86, was undergoing treatment at the same hospital after suffering a heart attack.
At the time, the Royal House noted, "Queen Margrethe will be hospitalized over the weekend for observation and further examinations."Her Majesty is tired but in good spirits."

The news of Queen Margrethe's latest hospitalization came as the Danish royal family stepped out for Royal Run, an annual sports event.
These recent hospitalizations are the latest in a series of health issues for the former monarch, who abdicated from the throne in January 2024 on the 52nd anniversary of her accession. She became the first Danish sovereign to voluntarily step down in nearly 900 years, passing the crown to her eldest son, King Frederik.

At that time, the King's Australian-born wife became Queen Mary, but Margrethe retains her Queen title and is styled as Her Majesty.

Queen Mary shared an update on her mother-in-law's condition with reporters upon her release from the hospital on May 20.
“She is doing much better. And fortunately, she is now on her way home to Fredensborg,” the 54-year-old Queen Consort said, adding that she was happy to have Queen Margrethe close in order to provide family support. “Now we are neighbors, so it’s absolutely wonderful. Yes, it’s great."
Queen Margrethe cited her health as a reason for stepping down in the shocking speech announcing her abdication on New Year's Eve 2023.
"In February this year, I underwent extensive back surgery. Everything went well, thanks to the competent health personnel, who took care of me," she said at the time. "Inevitably, the operation gave cause to thoughts about the future – whether now would be an appropriate time to pass on the responsibility to the next generation. I have decided that now is the right time."
Following the abdication, Queen Margrethe continued to take on public engagements; however, she was also sidelined multiple times last year by hospitalizations: once after a fall and once when she contracted a cold.
