Los Angeles police are questioning Nick Reiner following the deaths of his parents, acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, who were found dead in their Brentwood home Sunday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid call around 3:30 p.m. on December 14, where they discovered a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman dead inside the residence.
According to sources close to the family, the couple's daughter Romy discovered her parents. The LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division, which handles high-profile investigations across the city, has taken over the case. No arrests have been made.
Rob Reiner's Legacy in American Cinema
Born in the Bronx in 1947 to legendary comedian Carl Reiner and singer Estelle Reiner, Rob Reiner first became a household name playing Michael "Meathead" Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcomAll in the Family, earning multiple Emmy Awards for the role.

His directorial career produced some of Hollywood's most beloved films including When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men established him as one of the industry's most versatile filmmakers. In 1987, he co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment, which produced numerous acclaimed films.
Rob met Michele, a photographer, while directing When Harry Met Sally. The couple married in 1989 and had three children together: Jake, Nick and Romy. Rob also has an adopted daughter from his previous marriage to the late actress and director Penny Marshall.
The Family's Statement and Community Response
Beyond filmmaking, the Reiners championed social causes including early childhood development through First 5 California and LGBTQ+ rights, working to overturn California's Proposition 8.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the loss "devastating" in a statement Sunday night. "Rob Reiner's contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice," Bass said.

Nick Reiner has previously spoken publicly about his struggles with drug addiction and periods of homelessness. In a 2016 interview, he described experiencing homelessness in multiple states beginning in his teens.
The Reiner family released a statement obtained by Variety: "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."
