In a press conference on Friday, Martin County Sheriff's Office claimed that Woods' Land Rover attempted to overtake a truck at a "high speed." Authorities said the truck was slowing down to pull into a driveway and its driver tried to pull over to the side of the road, but Woods' vehicle clipped the pressure washer trailer attached to the back of the truck. The collision caused Woods' car to roll onto the driver's side. The golfer escaped out the passenger side door.
Sheriff John Budensiek described Woods as being "lethargic on scene" and claimed that the golfer did "exemplify signs of impairment." He added that Woods completed a breathalyzer test that resulted in zero but that he later refused to take a urinalysis test in jail.
The athlete was ultimately charged with two misdemeanors: DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to lawful test.

Representatives for Woods did not immediately respond to **'s request for comment.
This is not Woods' first significant car crash, nor is it his first time facing a DUI charge. In 2021, he was injured in a "single vehicle rollover traffic collision" in which the golfer's Genesis GV80 SUV sustained "major damage," according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The athlete, who did not show signs of impairment after the crash, underwent surgery to treat multiple leg injuries.

Woods' previous DUI charge came in 2017 after authorities discovered him asleep at the wheel of a parked vehicle in Jupiter, Fla. They did not find alcohol in his blood, but a toxicology report discovered painkillers, sleep drugs, and an ingredient active in marijuana in his system, reported NBC News.
