A photo published by PEOPLE captured the aftermath of the collision. The image showed Woods' Land Rover flipped with the driver's side door touching the ground. The vehicle appeared to have partially landed on grass, with the top of the car sitting just inches away from a sidewalk.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office alleged that Woods tried to overtake a truck at a "high speed" as the other driver was slowing down to pull into a driveway. Authorities said that although the truck driver attempted to pull over to the side of the road, Woods' vehicle clipped the pressure washer trailer attached to the back of the truck, causing his car to flip. The athlete then exited his car via the passenger side door.
Sheriff John Budensiek claimed that Woods was "lethargic on scene" and alleged that he exemplified "signs of impairment." The golfer allegedly took a breathalyzer test that resulted in zero, but later declined to take a urinalysis test in jail, which led to his second misdemeanor charge.
Representatives for Woods did not immediately respond to **'s request for comment.

President Trump, the former father-in-law of the golfer's girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, expressed sympathy for Woods following the crash. "I feel so badly," Trump said on Friday. "He's got some difficulty. There was an accident, and that's all I know. Very close friend of mine. He's an amazing person, amazing man. But some difficulty."

The golfer previously faced a DUI charge in 2017 after authorities in Jupiter, Fla., discovered him unconscious at the wheel of a stationary vehicle. "I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved," he said in a statement at the time. "What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn't realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly."
Woods later checked himself into a rehab program for prescription drug addiction and pleaded guilty to reckless driving. The DUI charge was dropped in exchange.
