Taylor Sheridan’s *Yellowstone* universe is the gift that keeps on giving.
Less than two weeks after its March premiere, *Marshals* received the green light for a second season. That likely had something to do with the success of its premiere: Within its first week, the show generated a whopping 20.6 million multiplatform viewers. By mid-April, *Marshals* had emerged as one of the most-watched series across all of broadcast and streaming.
*Marshals* follows Luke Grimes’ Kayce Dutton, who, following the loss of his wife, reconnects with an old colleague from his days as a Navy SEAL and joins the U.S. Marshals.
Season 1 wrapped on May 24, shining a light on the attacks on Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and raising several questions about the future of the Broken Rock reservation.

Will there be a second season of Marshals?
Yes, CBS announced on March 12 that *Marshals* was renewed for a second season.
The show’s premiere became the most-watched CBS original series debut without a football lead-in since *Young Sheldon* premiered in 2017. It also became CBS’ most-streamed episode ever on Paramount+.
“The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the *Yellowstone* world, the bold character-driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes," said CBS boss Amy Reisenbach in a statement.

Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton and Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton on 'Marshals'.
Kayce spent the latter part of season 1 considering a sale of East Camp to a wealthy rancher, Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey), prompted by the death of both his wife and old friend Garrett (Riley Green) on the land. He eventually rejects that offer, deciding that he can’t part with that piece of himself and his history.
He later informs his colleagues that he wants to turn the camp into an equine therapy center for veterans, inspired by Garrett’s passion for horses.
Meanwhile, Kayce’s fellow marshal, Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos), accepts a job offer to relocate to Washington D.C. However, she seems hesitant to do so, having formed a bit of an attachment to the wide open spaces of Montana. By the end of the episode, it seems clear that she’s looking for a reason to stay.

Much of the finale, however, centers around the assassination attempts on Thomas Rainwater, the chairman of the Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock. Rainwater wants to shut down a controversial mine on the Broken Rock reservation, but he's again attacked by masked assassins on his way to speak with a senator about the mine. Kayce hides him out at East Camp, but a hit squad nevertheless finds them. An all-out battle ensues, with Kayce and Rainwater flanked by the marshals.
After taking out the killers, Kayce and his team deduce that they were hired by someone with the money to afford them, leading them to suspect a council member named Nathan Irons (Gary Nohealii), who was frequently at odds with Rainwater. However, the marshals end up finding Irons dead by what looks like a suicide — until an autopsy reveals otherwise, and Rainwater suspects someone else is pulling the strings.
Later, after Kayce allows his son, Tate (Brecken Merrill), to go bass fishing with Weaver in Texas, we learn that Weaver was involved in the attacks on Rainwater. Furthermore, his men also open fire on Kayce's fellow marshals Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) and Belle (Arielle Kebbel). The finale ends with the fates of Tate, Cal, and Belle remaining unknown.
What will Marshals season 2 be about?

Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater on 'Marshals'.
No official synopsis has been released for season 2 as of this writing, but we can make some educated guesses about what the next season will look like.
For one, there are still plenty of unanswered questions around the attempts on Rainwater’s life — and their connection to Weaver. What are his intentions? And what does he have planned for Tate in Texas? And then there's Weaver's daughter, Dolly (Ellyn Jameson), who's been cozying up to Kayce. How aware is she of what her dad is doing?
Season 1 ends with Rainwater throwing a wrench in the development of the mine on Broken Rock, but the land's troubles run deeper, from the proliferation of fentanyl to the presence of a cartel. The marshals will no doubt continue working with Rainwater to try and bring peace to the reservation.

CBS has yet to make an official cast announcement, but you can certainly expect to see Grimes return alongside the other marshals.
Logan Marshall-Green confirmed his involvement in season 2 in an interview with TVInsider, revealing that he's already read the first script. “We pick up right where we left off, I mean literally and figuratively,” he said. “No rest for the wicked.”
The actor also teased more developments in his relationships to Belle and his daughter, Maddie (Morgan Lindholm), as well as his struggles with cancer. “There’s always something and the next phase is going to be this cancer,” he said. "I don’t want a pussyfoot around it. I want the stakes to be as high as possible and that’s something I always talk about on set every day, every sentence, every scene. Stakes are high and keep them high. So even though it was great to hear my daughter say the word 'dad,' there’s always something coming down the road with life."
Plus, Santos confirmed in an interview with *PEOPLE* that she’ll be making a return in season 2 as well.
"[In] season 2, I think we'll start to see a side of Andrea that's almost opposite to how we met her in season 1," she teased. "That's what's been really interesting to me."
When does Marshals season 2 come out?
While *Marshals* season 2 doesn't have an exact premiere date as of yet, CBS confirmed it will arrive this fall. It will continue to air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
